Zašto je propao Dreamcast?

    Vecina igara je "selfboot" tipa, tj. nije potreban nikakav boot disk.

    Koliko se ja secam bio je potreban boot disc zvani "Utopia".



    Samo u početku, i to vrlo kratko. Vrlo brzo je provaljeno kako pokrenuti igru bez Utopije.

    Many pirate games requiring the boot CD were released on the internet after the arrests of Utopia. However, pirate groups later learned how they could create self-booting discs that did not need the boot CD. They created multisession MIL-CDs and added two functions to the bootsector on their discs to solve the problems of the different booting sequence for MIL-CDs. The first function is a scrambling function--the Dreamcast loads the binary from the disc and descrambles it, creating invalid data, but the IP.BIN rescrambles the data, leaving correct executable data in memory. The second function is the "GD-ROM reset" function, which unlocks the GD-ROM drive, making it able to read from the disc after the game has booted. While previous games were for burning with CDRWIN, self-booting games, like the Utopia boot CD, were for burning in DiscJuggler, because CDRWIN does not support multisession files.

    najveći razlozi za propast Dreamcasta su

    1) Cena PS2
    2) PS2 je imao DVD
    3) Sonijev marketing koji SEGA nije mogla da isprati
    4) EA je napustio DC, tada su Maden, Fifa i NBA Live bili najprodavanije franšize u svetu igara
    5) Nekontrolisana piraterija

    Zbog toga sto su se okrenuli NEC-u a ne 3dfx-u. To je bio glavni razlog, i nije da SEGA nije bila upozorena na to jos u prototip fazi.

So you can compete with Visual Concepts. We'll have Visual Concepts sports titles and we'll have EA sports titles, and that will be it.'"

    Probst didn't budge.

    "No, I don't even want to compete with Visual Concepts," Probst told Stolar, who replied, "'Forget it then, end of story.' That's what it was all about, right there."

    Weeks after Stolar's and Probst's lunch meeting, Japan tried to change EA's mind, but it didn't work, said Stolar. "Sega tried to lower royalties but EA wouldn't budge."

    Fala ti na odgovoru.
    Sad mi malkice jasnije, mada i dalje mislim da nije bitno dali je piraterija "laka" ili "teska" na datoj konzoli, vec dali je ima ili ne - a PS2 nije bio postedjen piraterije kol'ko ja znam.

    Oduvek su EA bili djubrad:

    EA used some dirty tactics. EA reverse engineered the Genesis and developed thier own unlicensed dev kit. They used this as a bargaining chip, basically they threatened the people at Sega that the would release unlicensed games developed with this kit unless Sega gave them a larger percent of money for each cartridge sold. Sega actually gave in to this demand, and EA did make more money per cartridge on the Genesis than they did on the SNES. EA's heavy support made the Genesis/ Mega Drive the go to console for sports games.

    ^Da, ali samo u Severnoj Americi. U Evropi, 15 godina ce proci sledeceg meseca, a u Japanu je to bilo prosle godine.

    Znam,ali oni nisu morali bas 1999 i 98 da izdaju konzolu. al dobro .Napisacu status :D

    imali su nesto u steku...? zar nije jedan od glavnih ljudi sege odrzavao dc u zivotu svojim sopstvenim parama, secam se da je bilo tako nesto. realno dc nije imao sta da trazi pored ps2/xbox/gc-a i da se duze proizvodio

    Alive and kicking

    Tim Mikins (Tim Meekins), Nik Džons (Nick Jones) i Džon Eliot (John Elliot) marta ove godine omogućili su pristup dodatnom sadržaju za igru Floigan Bros. nakon 16 godina od njenog izlaska. Sva trojica su članovi razvojnog tima Visual Concepts koji je dugo radio na igri koja je prema nekim glasinama trebala da predstavlja pandan braći Mario na Seginoj konzoli. Kako se razvoj odužio igra je izdata četiri meseca nakon zvanične najave Sege da prestaje sa proizvodnjom konzola.
